Lubricity Improver

LUBRICITY IMPROVEMENT ADDITIVE FOR GAS TURBINE FUELS

Poor lubricity is an inherent property associated with certain light density and low viscosity fuels – for example naphtha, kerosene and gas condensates. These type fuels provide little or no lubrication to metal surfaces, so that critical components such as gas turbine flow dividers and fuel pumps are likely to experience serious wear and premature failure.

TURBOTECT ER-517N to control corrosion in aggressive naphthas and gas condensates and TURBOTECT ER-517 are both superior lubricity improvement additives that have been specially developed to address wear problems in gas turbine fuel pumps and flow dividers, and to alleviate excessive operational and maintenance issues when burning low lubricity fuels. The development of these products represents a break-through in the field of tribology, and incorporates the most recent chemistry in terms of lubricity improving molecules.

Furthermore, unlike earlier-generation products that are available on the market, TURBOTECT ER-517N and TURBOTECT ER-517 have been specifically developed to address the unique technical requirements of the gas turbine industry. These additives also overcome certain undesirable properties associated with earlier products, such as solubility, stability and incompatibility. Turbotect’s careful developmental approach has resulted in the following product features and benefits:

  • Unequalled anti-wear efficiency
  • High purity product with ultra-low concentration of trace metal contaminants
  • Contains no phosphorous or chlorine compounds
  • Excellent mixing and compatibility with a wide range of gas turbine fuels
  • Extremely low solids content and high filterability
  • No tendency to form troublesome gum deposits
  • Absence of any negative interaction with traces of iron present in the fuel
  • No interaction with other fuel additives

TURBOTECT ER-517N and TURBOTECT ER-517 are low viscosity lubricity improvement additives that are effective on a wide range of distillate fuels such as naphtha, kerosene and gas condensates. The completely oil-soluble surface-active components go rapidly into solution in the fuel and create a lubricating film by adsorption onto metal surfaces. Both products are extremely low in trace metal impurities to ensure compliance with gas turbine fuel specifications. There are no negative side-effects with other additives such as corrosion inhibitors or combustion improvers, and no interaction with fuel impurities such as rust particles, iron, zinc and dirt etc. The products are extremely stable both in their delivered form and in solution in the hydrocarbon fuel.

Turbotect lubricity fuel additives are in use:

  • In various numbers of gas turbine models like GE Frame 5, GE Frame 6, GE Frame 9E, GE Frame 9-FA and Mitsubishi.
  • On circular and linear types of flow dividers.
  • On fuels such as Naphthas, Gas Condensates, Kerosene and various refinery by-product fuels.

Note that the addition of a lubricity improvement additive does not increase the inherent lubricity of the fuel. Wear problems are alleviated by the action of specific surface-active molecules in the additive. These components are adsorbed onto metal surfaces and create an extremely thin lubricating film.
